Yesterday I mentioned to a coworker that I was planning to "splurge on a new book". As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I shuddered. I don't know why I used that word - I hate it.
Splurge. It sounds like something you do after too many shots of tequila.
The sentence, "Today I splurged on a new book," sounds like it should be responded to with, "That's too bad - you didn't have time to make it to the toilet?"
Yuck.
I love books. I would feel terrible if I splurged on one.

i hate the word "moist"...
You're in good company - moist is a really commonly hated word! It doesn't bother me, but I have heard a lot of people say they feel the same way as you.
I too hate the word moist. Along with the word boil... Oh ya and pussy. Combined, all three are repulsive.
I'm also one who hates the word moist. Sounds dirty.
i hate the word "guesstimate". in fact, anyone who uses the word "guesstimate" makes me want to die.
not a word, but a phrase - i hate it when new yorkers say they're waiting "on line"... like "i was waiting on line for 20 minutes at the bank today".... you're waiting IN line you jerk.
